Hi all,

train 3 quart faceThis time, no new Lego Technic moc, but a sympathetic electric train designed and built by my 7 years old son !
We started together the project, Dad gave a few advices, about the size and how to plug the IR receiver and the battery box, and that’s all. After that, Dad went back to the lounge to watch the rugby world cup on TV… After a while, Kid left his bedroom with a train in hands, and … that was (almost) what you see here on the website !
Well, it’s a quite simple train, without many details, but it’s pretty cute and I’m so proud my son did it by itself that I’ve decided to build the instructions and add a post to the blog ! Really, that is his very first finished self building !

H42041B-RCello !

A new RC moc again ! This my pleasure actually these days hehe. This is the B model of the 42041 set (Race Truck), which is a race car, one of those monsters that run in circles on the american tracks !

The challenge for that build was to make everything hidden under the bodywork, IR receiver excepted. There’s not that much space and the battery box takes quite a big space. I choosed a L motor for the propulsion, that’s enough, the set is light and the L motor is faster than the XL and has enough torque. Like for the 42041, I’ve placed a chain between the motor and the differential, that’s an uncommon choice, but it works pretty well, and I like how it looks !

For the steering, the choice went to the traditional servo motor. I could install it on the rear, side by side of the driver’s seat, it’s a bit hidden and that’s good like it.
As battery box, I’ve chosen a train battery box because of it’s smaller size, and it has a lovely place inside the car, near the lateral right door.

Overall, this is a nice modification, better than for the 42041 race truck where I could not totally hide the motors. The car is fast and very playable and I like it !

Thank you for reading me, and as usual, you can download the PDF instructions for free, feel free to post me some photos of your own build or donate a few coins to help me for the upcoming models !

Hi !

42041 - RCThis is my remote controlled version of the 42041 Race Truck. This small set has a nice look, and as soon as I built it, the envy to make it fully RC came to my mind !

It’s rather small tho, not much space for the motors and the battery box so I had to make concessions ! The battery box has been installed into the cabin, it’s not very pretty but that’s the only free space in the truck. It should be possible to make it less visible, by removing the tipping the cabin and putting it very low on the chassis. That’s not the choice I made because then it would become complicated to extract and replace.

The steering is controlled by the usual servo motor. I choosed a large Power Function motor for the driving because I wanted speed instead of torque. I’ve kept the V8 engine that occupies lots of place, so the easier place where to install the motor was at the rear.

This is a quickly made MOD for a small set. Although, it’s very fun to play with because it’s fast and has a very nice steering efficiency. Keep it on easy surfaces, and avoid outside grounds !

You can also replace the rear wheels by bigger ones, it will make the truck even faster !
